11 Things I Did To Become Fully Booked Working In A Studio (and how you can too!)

Updated: Oct 27, 2020

I receive a tonne of emails/messages from PTs daily

asking how to get clients and leads whilst working out of a studio

one PT even said "there's not a lot of chance to generate leads as there's no members"

^^^ I totally disagree

having previously worked in a studio when I was a personal trainer

to generate ANY sort of lead

whether that be in a commercial facility or a private studio

you really need to look and assess the VALUE you're bringing to your target audience

you need to be doing this on a DAILY basis - numerous times a day

now lets just talk to the PTs that work in studios for now

(although PTs that work in commercial facilities will also benefit from reading on too)

I'm not one of these people that will tell you what to do without having done it myself already

so lets talk specifically about what I did to become a fully booked PT whilst working in a private studio (that had no members)

Disclaimer: The following advice will NOT work for you if you don’t put in the work yourself. It’s not a magic formula that will just generate clients for you by reading it. 99% of people reading this will probably read it, acknowledge it, nod their heads, pretend they’re going to do it and then do nothing at all about it.

For it to work, YOU must work.

And you must work well. You must do quality work. The stuff I’m about to share with you works. If it doesn’t work assess how well you’re doing it.

There is a huge return on investment for the people that actually apply it and apply it well. Not just apply it half heartedly.

You ready?

Lets go….

THE FIRST THING

Get so f*cking clear on SPECIFICALLY who it is you're targeting and SPECIFICALLY what problems YOU solve.

(without doing that you'll get lost in the noise)

Some questions you need to answer right now are:

1. Are they male/female? (if not specifically male or female, WHO are they? What do they do for a living? etc)

2. How old are they?

3. What is their ultimate goal?

4. What are their 5-10 biggest obstacles/struggles right now?

5. How can you specifically solve each one of those? 6. Where would you find them outside of a gym environment?

(of course you can go a lot deeper with this but that would be a brilliant start)

AFTER YOU'VE DONE THAT ^^^

1. Create a lead magnet. A free report, mini video series, mini book etc.. showing how you understand their problems, what they're going through, how you can relate to them and most importantly how you can SOLVE what they're struggling with. Actually solve their problem for them in the lead magnet. Tell them exactly what they need to do (VALUE!!!) promote this lead magnet everywhere and exchange it for their email address - follow up with them to see how they’re getting on with the homework you’ve set them. If they’ve not done the work required? They probably need some accountability. Get them down to your facility for a chat and show them how you can keep them accountable. If they’ve done the work and not got the result? Then either what you gave them was garbage or they didn’t actually do it. Work out which it is and either give them something better to do or get them down to your facility for a chat and show them exactly what they need to do. If they’ve done it and got the result? Then they know what you offer is pure gold. Find out further ways you can help them along with their journey.

2. Create daily social media posts.

A bare MINIMUM of 1 every single day - across multiple platforms demonstrating how you can solve exactly what your target audience are struggling with (VALUE!!!).

Something that you need to ask yourself and it’s important you do:

“is what I’m producing valuable to my audience or valuable to me?” ^^^ I shouldn’t need to tell you what the correct answer is.

3. Follow social media accounts within a 10 mile radius of your facility that match your target audience. Build relationships with these people via their profiles, engage with them, comment on their posts, like their posts etc.

Don’t spam these people, that’s not the point here, the point is to bring VALUE to them, not just bombard them for the sake of it. Give yourself a target each day of new valuable interactions. 10 a day, every day, is a great start.

4. Do a seminar at your facility.

Create a seminar and focus the seminar on the biggest struggle that your target audience are facing and how they can overcome it. Walk around every house/business in your local area and personally talk to people and invite them down and explain what they will get out of it - you can also promote this on social media and even ask clients to recommend it to friends/family.

5. Offer a weeks trial. Offer a weeks trial for the specific person you're targeting (you can do this via social media, email marketing, contacting local businesses or even just speaking to people in the street etc).

6. Ring every single one of your old clients. Don’t text, email or private message. Actually ring them and have a conversation with them to see how they’re getting on and if there’s anything you can do to help them moving forwards.

7. Ring every single one of the leads you’ve ever had in your business. Ring if you can (otherwise email) any lead that has ever been in your business and didn’t previously sign up for whatever reason. Ask them if they’re any closer to achieving what they originally said they wanted to. If they haven’t achieved it?

Invite them down to your facility and demonstrate how you can overcome everything they’re struggling with.

If they have achieved it?

Ask them what they’d like to achieve in the next 12 months and demonstrate value by showing specifically how you can help them get there.

8. Referrals.

Talk to your current clients face to face and ask them if they know of anyone that would benefit from them the same life changing results they’ve achieved.

9. Use Facebook Ads.

Promote your valuable content (lead magnet, seminar, social media posts, weeks trial) via Facebooks ads and specifically target the people whose problem you solve. 10. Run competitions. Organise a competition to win a free month of personal training at your facility. Promote it everywhere. Pick one winner and contact everyone else who entered offering them a coaching consultation.

After the winner has completed their month, you should have demonstrated enough value for them to move forwards with you as a client.

Consult with them on their last session of the free month about moving forwards with you permanently.

11. Go out in your local area.

Talk to the public. Hand out flyers. Promote your competitions/seminars.

^^^ most won’t do this one because it actually involves talking to people. You know, being PERSONAL.

Funny that I’m writing this for PERSONAL trainers, eh? Every single thing that you do must revolve around providing VALUE to your target audience.

Not value to yourself.

Provide them with immense value without the expectation of anything in return.

You should make it your aim that everyone in a 10 mile radius of your facility knows exactly who you are, what you do and what you solve.

Become the go to PT by going the extra mile.

As I mentioned previously… 99% of people reading this won’t do anything about it.

But for the 1% of people that do, I can’t wait to hear your results.

Don’t forget though - you have to bring VALUE to your audience.

If it’s not working for you? You’re not bringing enough genuine value. Oh and remember, just like you tell your clients….. this stuff requires consistency. Doing it once isn’t enough.

Oliver.
